An exhibition examining memory as a living process, continually reshaping how we understand ourselves.

ABOUT THE ART

Field Notes on Memory invites the viewer to consider memory not as a static archive, but as an evolving landscape where what fades, what endures, and what is remade exist together.

Working in distinct mediums, both artists trace how personal and cultural histories become embedded in material. Saldivar’s luminous stain paintings use custom pigments and layered processes to create translucent surfaces where color reflects the persistence of memory and the experience of bicultural identity. Elder’s ceramic and mixed-media works draw from mythology, ornament, and personal history, assembling fragments of heritage and imagination into layered narratives that resist fixed interpretations.

Together, their works reveal identity as something continually formed through remembrance, transformation, and material trace. Field Notes on Memory invites the viewer to consider memory not as a static archive, but as an evolving landscape where what fades, what endures, and what is remade exist together.
