Playfully exploring scale and nostalgia through a contemporary collection of miniature objects

For MINI , MIXD Gallery’s first exhibition of miniatures, artists were challenged to create a limited edition of works on a small scale (10” or less). Large scale art can be striking and create immersive experiences with major impact. But we wondered if tiny objects could have a similar effect – by causing the viewer to stop, lean in, get up close and personal, and engage with the art. There could be benefits to the artist, too: less time-consuming (although, not always), more room for experimentation and a way to test process, techniques and materials (with less waste). MIXD artists were up for the challenge, and you’ll hear from a few of them here about the process.
