Artist: Brandon Forrest Frederick

Brandon Forrest Frederick (b. 1988) is an artist and former arts organizer from Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated with his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2011 and is currently an MFA candidate at the University of Arkansas. He has helped organize numerous artist-run projects and has exhibited his work nationally and internationally. Forrest’s visual practice uses photography and filmmaking in an expansive and experimental way that is rooted in questions related to the underlying cultural structures we live in, connecting them to the fleeting poetic moments in everyday life.

ABOUT THE ART

Late to the Party addresses the feelings of desire and alienation that result from the unrestrained image and object production of contemporary life. In this state of total consumption our personal anxieties are magnified, resulting in a deflated experience where it feels difficult to know yourself as an individual; where the performance of yourself, your peers, and the world becomes an obsessive experience. This multi-channel installation asks how one can persist in a time defined by its flattening of the human experience.
