Sprezzatura

Free

Artist: Flora Saldivar

As a formalist artist, I find my inspiration in the raw beauty of the materials I work with. My work celebrates the possibilities that exist within the materials, and I seek to create something truly unique and special out of them. My process is deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of my hometown, Mexico, whose rich history and vibrant artistic traditions inspire me to push the boundaries of what is possible in my own work, and to explore new ways of expressing myself through my art. But above all, my work is about my faith and the perspective I have gained from it. I believe hope and possibilities are powerful catalysts for growth and change. They allow us to see beyond the present moment and envision a brighter future. Through my art, I wish to inspire others to see the world in a new light, and to find the hope and possibility that exists within every moment.

ABOUT THE ART

My art practice revolves around a soak-stained color pouring technique, manipulating the viscosity of the paint and the direction and speed of the pours, exploring its versatility and spontaneity.  I have spent countless hours creating an acrylic color blend that absorbs in a unique way into the raw canvas. This technique allows for an unconstrained and dynamic approach to painting.

In my latest series “Sprezzatura”, I aim to convey the quality reminiscent of ease and fluidity. It is the kind of effortless grace that seems natural and uncontrived. Where the liquid stains create organic shapes that seem to flow, blend and soak with ease. Each painting is a unique interaction between the paint and the raw canvas, resulting in unpredictable but beautiful outcomes. I like to believe my pieces have a certain sense of studied carelessness. I am fascinated by the organic nature of this process and the way each color absorbs and behaves differently. Reminiscent of human behavior, there are colors that mix and blend with ease, while others are capricious and complicated but all ultimately having to work with one another. Fundamentally, my art is about capturing the beauty of imperfection and celebrating the unexpected.

Each painting is a unique interaction between the paint and the raw canvas, resulting in unpredictable but beautiful outcomes. I like to believe my pieces have a certain sense of studied carelessness.
