
Meet the Artist
Amber Imrie
Amber Imrie (they/she) is an artist, curator, and educator based in the Ozarks of Northwest Arkansas. They were born and raised off-the-grid, largely homeschooled before testing out of school at age sixteen. Amber holds a BA with honors from UCBerkeley, where they were awarded Excellence in Sculpture, and an MFA from Stanford University, where they received the Anita Squires Fowler Award in Photography.From 2014 to 2017, Amber founded and curatedVenison Magazine, an online contemporary art platform, andCamp Venison, an art micro-residency. They have been anartist in residence and exhibited work in Amsterdam, Mexico, Sweden, and the UnitedStates, including California, Arkansas, Maine, New York, Texas, Colorado, and New Mexico.In 2017, Amber received the Murphy Cadogan Award to support their hybrid artistic practice and was a finalist for both the Summer SOMA Residency and the HeadlandsGraduate Fellowship Award in 2018.In 2020, Amber became a founding member of The Alternative Art School.Since 2021, they have served on various jury panels for fellowship and exhibition open calls. In 2023, Amber was awarded the Creative Exchange Fund Spectra Grant as a curator/artist, the Artist 360practicing artist grant, and was invited to speak at the ArtBo International Art Fair in Bogotá, Colombia, and Expo Chicago, USA.Amber is currently developing a new body of work in 2025 and will be publishing a text withIndependent Curators International (ICI). They live with their fur babies in Fayetteville,Arkansas. Amber’s work has been collected by private collectors and institutions, most notably, The San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles and Bates Museum.
