Artist Statement
My work explores the balance between control and unpredictability inherent in working with clay. During the making and firing process, the material often takes unexpected turns, shaping the final outcome. The ceramic tile, as both an individual object and part of a larger composition, allows me to reclaim control when arranging the pieces. I’m inspired by the textures and natural formations of the Ozark Mountains, the layered stone, weathered surfaces, and subtle shifts shaped by water and time. Through my tiles, I aim to capture those traces of transformation and create surfaces that evoke a quiet depth beneath the visible.
